Furniture Care Tips

Your furniture anchors your home’s character and style as it provides the basis for your design and color theme.  Make the most out of your favorite pieces with these helpful hints:

1. Fabric

✤ Use a handheld vacuum with a brush attachment to remove debris and keep your upholstery looking fresh.

✤ Spot Cleaning: Blot the area gently with a clean cloth.  Never rub, as this can cause a stain to spread. You can use a mild detergent or a fabric cleaner, depending on the type          of fabric.

✤ Consider using a fabric protector spray to help repel stains and dirt.

✤ Avoid direct Sunlight. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause fabric colors to fade.

2. Leather

✤ Wipe with dry soft cloth to remove accumulated dust at least once a week. Avoid using cleaning chemicals or detergents.

✤ Spot Cleaning:  Call a leather professional if you have an ink stain, aniline stain or any persistent stains.

✤ Protect from direct and indirect sunlight.  Keep leather pieces at least two (2) feet away from a window and heat sources in your home.

✤ Apply a good leather conditioner every 6-12 months to keep leather soft and supple, and to prevent it from drying and cracking.

✤ Keep sharp objects away to prevent accidental damage.  Do not leave hot objects on leather surfaces.  Avoid resting newspaper and magazines on the surface as ink is                    absorbed by leather.

3. Wood

✤ Regularly dust / clean wood veneer surfaces with soft, lint-free cloth. Use a dry cloth dusting or slightly dampen the cloth with mild soap and water.

✤ Wipe the veneer dry after using damp cloth and make sure to work in the same direction as the pattern in the wood.

✤ Avoid products that are oil-based or contain wax.  Use protective accessories like glass coasters, desk pads, placemats, a glass top, etc., to protect wood surfaces from discoloration.

A little love and regular care can go a long way in keeping your furniture in beautiful condition for years to come.
